TARANTA | Pizzica from Salento in Apulia, Pizzica di Santu Paulu (traditional from Salento, Southern Apulia)
The video was shot in a live performance in the town of Calitri (Province of Avellino, Napoli region) during Saint Vito Celebration on 7th September, 2012.
This song is inspired by TARANTA myth, a music that has been playing in Southern Apulia and all over Southern Italy for almost 3.000 years. Taranta (Tarantella) is still used for healing purposes, to free the so called tarantate (possessed women) and to get the universal energy (Reiki) that Tarantella rhythm lets flow through people's mind, heart and soul on tambourine beat. Saint Paul, who stopped in Southern Apulia on his way to Rome, gave benediction to a sping of water in Galatina, in Southern Apulia (the famous "well of tarantate") saying that the possessed women were freed by spider's poison of possession drinking that very water... a ritual repeated for thousands of years dancing this particular Tarantella that came from ancient God Dionysus' rituals that represent the ancient Greek myth of TARANTA.
