world premiere and Piano Spheres commission
When my mentor, Aron Kallay, told me about this opportunity to be able to commission a piece for this project, the very first composer that came to my mind was Karen Tanaka! I am thrilled to share her expressions of ma in this brand-new work, Rose Crystal tonight.
A dreamy scene in a rose garden is in the classic romantic movie, A Summer Place (1959). Tanaka drew inspiration from the “phantom” of that scene. The piece aims to reflect the illusion and fantasy with the nostalgic piano sound.
