I first learned about this piece from @burleson88 at the @MostlyModernProjects last summer, and I performed this piece in @vcpianos's masterclass on April 9 before my DMA final recital. This is a genre-defying fusion of classical piano technique and electronic dance music energy; across three electrifying movements—Techno, Solitude, and Drive—Tanaka explores the mechanical, the meditative, and the manic, pushing both performer and listener into new sonic territory.
Drawing inspiration from the pulsating rhythms and textures of 90s club culture, Techno Etudes transforms the acoustic piano into a percussive, beat-driven force of nature. It is a thrilling example of how contemporary composers reimagine the instrument for the 21st century.
